“The Lord God said: ‘It is not good for the man to be alone’ . . . ” ( Gen: 2, 18). These words from the book of Genesis are basic to the Church’s understanding of the sacred character of Marriage. Our Lord raised this natural union to the dignity of this sacrament.
What is a sacrament? A sacrament is a visible sign instituted by Christ that invites a couple to live a holy way of life.
So, marriage covenant, by which a man and woman form with each other an intimate communion of life and love has been founded and endowed with its own special laws by the Creator. By its very nature it is ordered to the good of the couple, as well as, to the generation and education of children. Jesus, Our Lord raised marriage between the baptised to the dignity of a sacrament.
