The Sacrament of Baptism
Baptism is the first sacrament your child will receive. It marks his or her entry into the Christian Community of the Church and God’s family, and the beginning of the new life of faith.
As Parents, it is your great privilege and responsibility to pass on to your child your own love for God, faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to the Church.
Baptism is celebrated on Sunday morning after the 9 am Mass. Baptisms begin at 10.30am and you are asked to be on time respecting other families already present.
Celebrating the Sacrament of Baptism
In asking for this Sacrament for your child you are committing yourselves to the practise of your faith. This calls you to be generous in giving God an hour out of your week. As Catholics we grow in our faith through prayer and the Eucharist (Mass) as we come into a relationship with Christ in Holy Communion. Coming to Mass assists you to be generous in your giving to Christ and to your family and it means that you are serious in accepting and following the Catholic Faith. Godparents are encouraged to attend in order to deepen and grow in their own religious life as they pray for their Godson or Goddaughter.
Godparents
One Godparent must be Catholic, and if possible a committed Catholic, who will be involved with your child with their Sacraments. The non-Catholic Godparent must be baptised and committed in faith. Both parents together with the Godparents, present their child for this Sacrament in the ceremony. A person who is NOT baptised cannot be a Godparent, as this is a Christian Sacrament.
Baptism Certificate
We request that at least one parent provide a copy of their baptism certificate upon registration.
