The Sacrament of Marriage

Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding. This is a wonderful and exciting time for not only yourselves as a couple -in-love but for the whole family. To help make the preparation for your marriage easier, below are some guidelines from the church’s perspective and information to help you as you prepare for your special day.

“The Lord God said: ‘It is not good for the man to be alone’ . . . ” ( Gen: 2, 18). These words from the book of Genesis are basic to the Church’s understanding of the sacred character of Marriage. Our Lord raised this natural union to the dignity of this sacrament.

What is a sacrament? A sacrament is a visible sign instituted by Christ that invites a couple to live a holy way of life.

So, marriage covenant, by which a man and woman form with each other an intimate communion of life and love has been founded and endowed with its own special laws by the Creator. By its very nature it is ordered to the good of the couple, as well as, to the generation and education of children. Jesus, Our Lord raised marriage between the baptised to the dignity of a sacrament.

Pre-Marriage Preparation

The Church encourages couples preparing for marriage to attend a Church sponsored pre-marriage course.

At the initial interview Father will indicate the programmes available.

Required Documentation

Couples are to provide the following documents:
* Baptismal Certificates (no more than 6 months old)
* Birth Certificates
* Passports (current) can replace the birth certificate.

Please Note:

It is necessary to book the Church before confirming your reception venue in case the Church is not available on your requested day.

Please give at least 6-12 months notice in booking the Church.
